This is just a little something to stimulate your thought...
A monotheist believes in GOD. S/he believes that the universe and all things tangible and intangible, seen and unseen, and the laws that govern them were created by GOD. S/he believes that GOD is Eternal , Omnipresent (everywhere), Omnipotent (can do anything) and Omniscient (knows everything), and that nothing exists or is sustained without HIM. Atheists, on the other hand, do not believe in GOD. They believe that the Universe and all of existence were formed by chance and sustained by the laws of nature which, being the result of the former, were also formed by chance. I do believe that it is most logical to believe in GOD for a number of reasons, some of which are:
THE CREATION:
Firstly, either everything came from NOTHING (which we know is IMPOSSIBLE) or SOMETHING ALWAYS EXISTED which created everything which exists. Nothing can only make NOTHING, therefore SOMETHING MUST HAVE EXISTED which created all that exists.
BEGINNING:
Science has proven that the Universe had a definate BEGINNING, and that it's expanding OUTWARD from a definite POINT, from which it began. Thus it BEGAN to exist. That hints at an ORIGINATOR. Thus something STARTED what was BEGUN.
MATTER, SPACE AND TIME:
The Universe is bound by Matter, Space and Time. For the Universe to be eternal (as in neither having a beginning nor an ending, and I'm using this in argument as some Atheist would like to claim the Universes eternality), then it must be outside the laws of MATTER, SPACE, AND TIME. Thus, the very Universe itself must be outside the laws of ITSELF, which is utterly impossible as the Universe is Matter, Space, and Time.
ETERNITY:
Matter, Space and Time only exists in finite (LIMITED) quantities. The moment there is TIME there is a beginning, and thus FINITIY (as opposed to Eternity which hints at neither a beginning nor an ending). As someone said, If I said I will give you a chocolate bar after switching on and off the light swich an infinite amount of times, would you ever get that chocolate bar? No, because though, in concept, I could continue on indifinately I'd never reach infinity. If something is truly infinite then it's Eternal, which, in this case means, never had a beginning or ending. So therefore Matter, Space and Time could not possibly be infinte and must have had a definate beginning. Thus whatever caused Matter, Time and Space to exist must be beyond Matter, Time and Space and thus beyond the boundaries of the Universe, which is bound by the laws of Matter, Time and Space, and thus what existed before Matter, Time and Space, must be Eternal.
DESIGN:
Everything that we see has a design. Every single component of the natural and un-natural world possesses this mark. By that, we know that whatever has design (everything) has a designer (someone who MADE it). When you see a car,you know that someone made it. When you see a house, you know that someone built it. The tree, the bird, the bee who makes the honeycomb, the flower, the mountain, the ant, you and I, the atom all have a design.
PURPOSE:
Whatever is designed serves a purpose. The eyes which you are using to read this are made so that you can see. The brain to which the eyes are connected to serves the purpose of thinking. The computer which you are viewing this blog from was put together for the specific functions for which they were made to carry out! And you are using your fingers to type. The car, and the airplane are meant to be means of transportation over long distances. The house is made to live, as a comfort and as a refuge. It's highly illogical to believe that something which serves a specific purpose came into existence all by chance, out of nowhere, without some sort of plan (and thus a planner) or design (and thus a designer). Everything serves a definate purpose, just like the car, the airplane, the house, and the computer.
NEED:
A PURPOSE is defined by a NEED. Thus if something has a purpose, then there is a need for it to exist. Since there is a need for it's existence, then there must have been a Someone who recognized/ defined it's need and created its purpose. Each aspect of the natural world has purpose, and thus a need to exist.
DEPENDENCY:
Everything is dependent upon something else. Therefore there must be a One Prime Necessary Something in which all are dependent upon and yet is dependent on none. Thus all that exists is sustained.
CONTINUITY:
Everything in the natural and un-natural world has relationship. One very simple example is the supply of air and carbon dioxide. As human beings we inhale air, and expell carbon dioxide. Trees on the otherhand inhale what we expell and expell what we breath. Thus there is a continuous supply of oxygen. Another example is that from each fruit tree, there is a seed in which contains all the information to produce another tree and thus ensuring (by GODs will)
a continuous supply of fruit. Thus food and life are sustained.
CHANCE AND INTELLIGENT DESIGN:
If you had a billion coins and threw them into the air, what is the chance that they will fall into the likeness of the Mona Lisa in every detail and by chance? Impossible. The natural world and all of creation is much more complexed than that, especially you and I who can recognize these things. Every thing needs direction. Thus for anything to exist which calls for a need, purpose and design, there must be a Creator.
LIFE:
Life only begets life. Something without life cannot produce something that has life. Something that does not exist, or does not possess the qualities of life, cannot produce something which exists and has qualities of life. Therefore if anything exists, there must be something which existed before it, up to the One Prime Necessary Something, of which all are dependent upon, but in Itself is dependent upon none. Because of that, we can conclude, that since life only begets life, that this One Prime Necessary Something is the Final Say, then it is Living and as the Final Say and as stated above, must be Eternal (beyond Matter, Space and Time).
ENERGY:
All energy that exists in this Universe has existed in the same quantity from the moment of creation in this Universe. This energy has always existed and can neither be created nor destroyed, and is everywhere, at one and the same time. If energy possesses these qualities, does this not testify to a Creator from which this energy came?
THE INNER DIMENSION:
The Mind, The Will, The Emotions, The Intellect, The Memory and Recollection, The Imagination, The knowledge of right and wrong, The concepts of Beauty and all the like points to One who created these things and placed them in us for a specific function, as each one mentioned serves a need and a purpose, and are thus designed, as all has an order, and nothing can come of itself.
HIGHER MAGNITUDE:
One who could create Mind, must have MIND, one who created Emotions must have EMOTION, one who created Intellect must have INTELLECT, one who created the
memory banks must have MEMORY, one who created the eyes, must be able to SEE etc...
SIMILARITY:
And seeing that nothing comes of itself, that a design proves the existence of a designer, that it satisfies a purpose, and that a purpose satisfies a need, that the very existance of a thing is dependent upon a sustaining factor and that it proves the existance of order, and that this order, being without chaos but with function, bears witness to a single Intelligence, we can conclude that all were Created by one and the same Being.
THE LAW OF CONTRASTS:
We know something only by the existence of its 'opposite' or complimentary nature. For example, we wouldn't know what light was, if it wasn't for the existence of the dark, and vice-versa. In fact, if one did not exist, neither would the other. There would simply be a state of being, but there would be no 'light' or 'darkness' as we know them. Therefore they both must be created things. By the same token, if our brains could not interpret either pain or pleasure, then neither would be existent.Using the same examples, the concept of 'nothingness' would in itself be nonexistent if it was not for 'somethingness'. Therefore total nothingness is an illusion, because it is only 'nothingness' if it's contrast of 'somethingness' also exists. That again tells us that 'nothingness' and 'somethingness' are both created things and alludes to the fact of a GRAND SOMETHINGNESS which always existed, beyond the definitions of 'nothingness' and 'somethingness'.
